December 2006
If you missed this year's Christmas on the Hill, you missed a jolly ol' Santa who charmed the children with his carriage rides, posed for numerous photos (yes, with pets too), sang Christmas carols with the little ones at the tree lighting and spread his Holiday joy all over the commercial Village of Spring Hill. The shops had delicious food to enjoy and lots of attractive things to buy for that special person on your list. What fun it was to stroll the streets, visiting with friends and watching little children enjoy playing on the inflated jump-all with Christmas music in the background. You may want to make a mental note not to miss next year's Christmas on the Hill. It was really fun!!!

The Spring Hill Village center is much improved with the completion of the attractive new BankTrust branch office at McGregor Avenue and Old Shell Road. The building is the bank’s sixth location in Mobile and is managed by Stephanie Powell. The 4600-square-foot building was designed by the architectural firm TAG and built by Roy Lewis Construction. Terry Plauche designed the landscaping for the building.

The sidewalks are rounding the bend!! Better start shopping for some new walking shoes... The project which started out on University Boulevard is nearing completion of the sidewalk phase through Langan Park up McGregor to Old Shell Road. The work was approved as a part of the Greenspaces Program. Also included is a pedestrian bridge across the lake which will link the park to the Mobile Museum of Art. The project is an important link for The Village of Spring Hill as it provides walkways for exercise and connects the Spring Hill shopping area to the Park. What a great thing to do a crisp Fall day!

Work is currently underway on the Greenspaces Program to complete sidewalks from University Boulevard to Municipal (Langan) Park and from the park up McGregor Avenue to Old Shell Road.  A bridge linking the park to the Mobile Museum of Art to allow pedestrian access to both sides of the lake is also part of the plan. This is an important link for The Village of Spring Hill as it provides walkways for exercise and connects the Spring Hill shopping area to the park.

We’re famous!  One of the beautiful old homes in The Village of Spring Hill made the  front page of Mobile Bay Monthly’s June issue!  It is just one of the many historic homes hidden along the oak lined streets that make up The Village of Spring Hill. Look inside the issue and discover what residents of The Village already know: We live in a just-about perfect neighborhood that includes schools, colleges, churches, golf courses, a library, an art museum, botanical gardens, lakes and parks, business offices, medical offices and retail stores – just about everything that’s needed to make up the perfect village.

Thanks to Mobile Bay Monthly for featuring us in their magazine.  There will be much more for them to write about and feature as The Village of Spring Hill continues to develop and implement their plans for the future.

Lavretta Park has been one of the recent big successes in our area. The park came about because of the efforts of many. However, it was the positive tenacity of Kellie Myers who drove it to completion. Working with then councilman Steve Nodine and the City of Mobile, her dream of a place for her neighborhood children to play became a reality and is one of the most popular playgrounds around. She and Councilwoman Gina Gregory continue the project with plans for a parking lot on Old Shell Road across from the Park. The Village of Spring Hill is pleased to announce that Kellie has joined their Board of Directors. Kellie will focus on the sidewalk initiative.
